Interior
When choosing interior paint colours, it is important to consider the size of the space you will be painting. Dark colours will make a room feel cozy, but smaller. Lighter colours tend to open a room up and make it feel bigger. When looking at a colour chip, it is a general rule that once the colour is painted on the walls in the space, it will seem slightly darker than the chip. The best place to look at a colour chip is outside in the natural light or in the room that it will be used in; fluorescent lights in a paint store will not give a true impression of the colour.

When painting an interior space, consider whether the paint itself is going to be a feature of the room or a backdrop. If you have impressive artwork or unique furniture that you would like to display, you may want to consider a lighter colour on the walls. This will put the focus on the artwork and the furniture. If the paint itself is intended to have a dramatic effect, darker colours will do the job.

Exterior
For exterior projects, the opposite rules apply; dark colours tend to make a home appear larger, while light colours make a home look smaller. When choosing exterior colours, we recommend a slow drive through the neighbourhood to see if you spot a house that really stands out to you. If you see something you like, it can be easily replicated. If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, it may help narrow it down. It’s best to choose colours that will suit the neighbourhood you live in, but not the same colour as your neighbours house. One thing to keep in mind is that dark colours will fade faster. However, with the right products we can make sure any colour will last a long time.

The most important thing when selecting your paint colours and finishes is to be sure you are happy with your choices before going ahead with your project.

Project Gallery

Imperial Painting painted the exterior of a three floor, 18 unit strata building in White Rock, B.C. From the start of the project, Craig went over the details of what we could expect in all areas including the prep work prior to painting, the quality of paint that would be used, and what to expect from his crew. Craig was very professional, knowledgeable and personable. The painting crew were prompt, courteous, organized and the site was cleaned on a daily basis, ensuring all equipment was stowed away to avoid any inconvenience to the owners. Our building transformed into a “new look” and it is most obvious that quality products and quality workmanship was used. We are most pleased (from start to finish) with Imperial Painting and are so happy we chose them. Thank you Craig and Kyle, you did an amazing job.

I would like to commend you and your staff on a job well done. It was not the easiest as we have a fairly large inventory in the store that had to be moved around to accommodate the painting. Shane and Kevin are to be commended on the quality of their work and their patience with us. I would highly recommend Imperial Painting to anyone who is looking for trustworthy, competent painters. Our store and offices look wonderful!

Nu-Tech Roofing and Waterproofing have used Imperial Painting and found that their work ethic, quality and value are parallel to us, over the past several years we have made Imperial our painting contractor of choice. Imperial Painting has helped us out on several occasions with their vast knowledge, experience and attention to detail. We are also completely confident and trusting in Craig to deal directly with our clients. I understand that in the construction market there are many fly-by-nighters with a truck who call themselves professionals and I really appreciate the opportunity to support Imperial Painting and separate them from the rest as I believe and have seen firsthand the pride that they take in the trade.
