Choose The Right Colours
Choosing the right colour can be a challenge. To simplify this process, we have compiled a collection of twenty-four of our favourite contemporary and classic colours from Benjamin Moore.
Note: Colours viewed on electronic devices can be misleading. These colour chips can be found at any Benjamin Moore store, or we can bring samples to you.
Interior
When choosing interior paint colours, it is important to consider the size of the space you will be painting. Dark colours will make a room feel cozy, but smaller. Lighter colours tend to open a room up and make it feel bigger. When looking at a colour chip, it is a general rule that once the colour is painted on the walls in the space, it will seem slightly darker than the chip. The best place to look at a colour chip is outside in the natural light or in the room that it will be used in; fluorescent lights in a paint store will not give a true impression of the colour.
When painting an interior space, consider whether the paint itself is going to be a feature of the room or a backdrop. If you have impressive artwork or unique furniture that you would like to display, you may want to consider a lighter colour on the walls. This will put the focus on the artwork and the furniture. If the paint itself is intended to have a dramatic effect, darker colours will do the job.
Exterior
For exterior projects, the opposite rules apply; dark colours tend to make a home appear larger, while light colours make a home look smaller. When choosing exterior colours, we recommend a slow drive through the neighbourhood to see if you spot a house that really stands out to you. If you see something you like, it can be easily replicated. If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, it may help narrow it down. It’s best to choose colours that will suit the neighbourhood you live in, but not the same colour as your neighbours house. One thing to keep in mind is that dark colours will fade faster. However, with the right products we can make sure any colour will last a long time.
The most important thing when selecting your paint colours and finishes is to be sure you are happy with your choices before going ahead with your project.
